As the NFL regular season approaches all teams go in with the thoughts and aspirations of not only winning their respective Divisions but making it all the way to the Super Bowl. Although it's nice to think that every team has an equal shot at the title going into the regular season, the reality is that the "have nots will continue to struggle. That is not to say that there won't be some surprises this year as there usually is a team that takes everyone by surprise.

In preperation I began to look at the AFC East where the current dynasty (New England) resides to see if it was going to be more of the same. After careful consideration below are my AFC East individual team previews and predictions.

First Place:

New England -- The New England Patriots feel short by a measly five points after blowing a big lead in the AFC Championship game that cost them their 4th appearance in the Super Bowl in the last 6 years. As a result the Patriots hit the free agent market big acquiring WR's Randy Moss, Donte Stallworth, Wes Welker, and Kelly Washington. They also added TE Kyle Brady and RB Sammy Morris. They didn't forget about the defense adding S Brandon Merriweather in the first round and resigning LB Junior Seau. Prediction: No reason to not see them in the Super Bowl again.

Second Place:

NY Jets -- The NY Jets were one of the surprise teams last year as first year head coach, Eric Mangini, took a 4-12 squad from the previous year and turned them into a 10-6 contender. In the off season the Jets mortgaged their future as they traded up to get two players who they really wanted in CB Derrelle Davis and LB David Harris. The Jets are hoping that these moves will improve a weak pass rush. Prediction: Lots riding on the Jets draft selections but they do have enough talent to make it to the playoffs once again. They won't get further than the first round however.

Third Place:

Buffalo -- Last years new Coach, Dick Jauron, took a Buffalo team who continued to disappoint and turned them into a hard playing bunch. In the off season they lost RB Willis McGahee and LB London Fletcher but replaced them in the first two rounds of the draft with RB Marshawn Lynch from California and LB Paul Posluszny of Penn State. In addition, it appears they stole a top prospect when they got Stanford QB Trent Edwards. Prediction: If not for my concern over current QB Losman I would have picked Buffalo to finish 2nd. But his eractic play and Jauron's reluctance to replace him will relegate them to no more than third place and out of the playoffs.

Fourth Place:

Miami -- Miami is coming off a very tumultous off season that not only saw head coach Saban resign but also saw the organization fail to address their QB situation when they passed on Notre Dame QB, Tom Brady. Instead they went for Ohio State WR, Ted Ginn Jr. They did attempt to address passing over Brady when they selection BYU QB John Beck. Prediction: Without a bonafide QB the Dolphins are going to be lucky to win many games. I personally feel it was a big mistake to pass on Brady. Too much second guessing this season and lack of organizational confidence is going to see Miami in the basement in the East and out of the playoffs for the 7th year in a row.
