Much has been written about bye weeks in the NFL and how it affects a teams performance in subsequent games. However, most of these articles focus on the bye week in it of itself. For the purposes of this article I decided to factor in a bye weeks affect on winning teams versus losing teams. Low and behold there certainly was something in this angle. In fact, losing teams faired better than winning teams when coming off a bye week in the NFL. Since 1980 teams with a win percentage of .333 or less are 117-92-1 (56%) with a week of rest (6-3 last season) while teams with a win percentage of more than .333 are 215-226-9 ATS over that the same. Although a winning percentage with the "losers" it was necessary to take a deeper dive and really nail down a profitable pick.

So, to start off our research we began looking at any division home dog off a bye week. These dogs barked loud as they are 40-26 ATS winning since 1980, including 24-9 ATS when they were off a SU and ATS loss.

Still digging further I decided to see if the number of points could give us even a bigger edge versus the books. What was discovered was that if these same underdogs were taking more than 5 points they were 12-2 ATS. Now, if we continue down this train of thought and have these pups coming off a loss of less than 10 points ATS in their last game they are a whopping 22-2 ATS.

This week there is a team that fits into this unbelievable angle and that is the Miami Dolphins when they host the San Diego Chargers.
