In what three weeks ago apeared to be a meanlingless contest between two AFC West Divison rivals, it as turned into all but that. However, a collapse by the Broncos and a winning streak by the Chargers has made tonight's contest in San Diego a do or do situation for the AFC West title. The winner going to the playoffs while the loser going to play golf.

The Broncos come into this contest at 8-7 SU and have been in sole possession of first place in the West the entire season. At one point they held a three game lead over the Chargers with only three games to go. Should they faile to win this one tonight they will miss the playoffs for the third straight season and will become the first team since division play began in 1967 to fail to make the playoffs after holding a three-game lead with three weeks to go.

The Chargers on the other hand come in at 7-8 SU and are riding a 3 game winning streak after last weeks victory over Tampa Bay. December seems to be the month for the Chargers over the years as they have reeled off 13 consecutive December victories having not lost since a 23-7 loss to the Broncos on Dec. 31, 2005. In their first meeting this season the Chargers were robbed of a victory when a blown call went against them and cost them the game versus the Broncos. Should that call been made correctly then the Chargers would already be claiming the West Division Crown.

In looking at the historical trends in this NFL Picks contest consider that San Diego has outscored the Broncos 71-23 in winning the last two meetings on their home turf. Also consider that San Diego is 20-7-4 ATS in their last 31 vs. AFC West, 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games following a S.U. win., and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games after accumulating more than 250 yards passing in their previous game. However, before giving up on Denver be aware that they are 12-1 ATS (+10.9 Units) after gaining 500 or more total yards in their previous game since 1992. Also playing on road teams (DENVER) after 2 consecutive games where they forced 1 or less turnovers against an opponent after a game where they forced 3 or more turnovers is 48-19 ATS over the last 5 seasons.
