After dropping their first game of the season last week to the Patriots the Indianapolis find themselves in a dog fight for first place in the AFC South. By virtue of their loss and Tennessee’s win the Colts hold only a one game lead at 7-1 SU. Indianapolis needs to be careful in this one as they know firsthand how dangerous the Chargers can be. Back in 2005 the Colts were riding a 13-0 mark and then proceeded to lose 26-17 to the Chargers as San Diego who intercepted Manning 2 times and had 4 sacks. Last week New England sacked Manning three times in ending the Colts' 12-game winning streak. All world receiver Marvin Harrison sat out his third game last week so Indy had to rely on second-year running back Joseph Addai. He responded rushing 26 times for 112 yards and had five catches for 114 yards, including a 73-yard TD reception. Last week’s score has him tied with Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson for second in the league with seven rushing touchdowns. A 14-2 SU team last year the Chargers started this season to 1-3 SU and ATS but then ran off three consecutive victories, including a 41-3 stomping of the Broncos in Denver. All appeared to be well in Charger land until last week when they were pounded by the Minnesota Vikings leaving them at 4-4 SU on the year. Rookie RB Adrian Peterson scored three touchdowns and set an NFL record with 296 yards rushing in the Minnesota win. Tomlinson rushed for only 40 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries - the third time this season he had been limited to 43 yards or fewer. San Diego's all world tight end Antonio Gates, had just one catch for 10 yards while quarterback Philip Rivers had a miserable day, completing 19-of-42 passes for 197 yards and an interception. Even the inconsistent Chargers can’t help to be motivated in this one as they will be facing the defending Super Bowl champs and have opened as field goal underdog. San Diego has not been a home dog since ‘04, and was 3-1 SU & ATS in that spot that year. The Colts are only 7-12 SU off a loss, and 5-8 ATS in their L13 as a road favorite. San Diego has had success versus the Colts as they are 7-4 SU & 8-3 ATS in the L11 meetings. This matchup will be Sunday Night’s finale of the day and should prove to be a good one.
