The NFL started giving teams a week off in week #4 this year and will conclude the bye weeks in Week #10. There has been a lot written about and analyzed over the years about how having a week off affects a team in their next game. Although there are some interesting trends to consider in that scenerios I decided to take a look at teams who are playing their final game before their bye week. Did teams actually lose focus thinking of their time off or did they go all out knowing that a week off was within their sights? This week we have 6 teams who will be playing with an eye on having next week off, they are: Buffalo, Denver, Detroit, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco. So the important question is, are they a good bet or a bad bet this weekend? Below are some interesting trends along with recommended selections:
Buffalo: Although one could argue that the Bill aren't very good anyway and betting them this year is a losing proposition, it's interesting that they have been terrible playing the week prior to time off. Overall they are only 6-10 ATS but recently have lost 8 straight games SU and are only 1-6-1 ATS in that span. Unfortunately they get their hands on unbeaten Dallas this week. Recommended Play: Go againts Buffalo.
Denver: Denver has been struggling this year have appear to do the same overall prior to their by week as they are only 8-9 ATS. However, their recent run shows a perfect 6-0 SU and ATS run. This week they have an important game versus the Chargers. Recommended Play: Pass as Denver is only 1-2-3 ATS their L6 when playing San Diego.
Detroit: Detroit, although seem to be in the midst of a decent season for a change, historically have not performed well in any situation. Specifically they are only 5-10 ATS prior to their by week and are currently on an 0-7 Su and 1-6 ATS run. Recommended Play: Take Washington
Indianapolis: As usual, the Colts along with the Patriots seem to once again be the class of the AFC. Their success certainly can not only be attributed to talent but also their focus winning each and every week. That shows in this situation as well as they are 11-7 ATS including 10-4 ATS their L14 when heading into their bye week. Recommended Play: Take the Colts.
Pittsburgh: Even with last weeks loss to the Cardinals the Steelers still remain one of the better teams in the AFC. However, they seem to have a problemm with focus prior to the bye week going 5-10 ATS including 1-6 ATS their L7 and 2-7-1 ATS their L10. Recommended Play: Go against the Steelers this week.
San Francisco: After coming out of the blocks at 2-0 SU the 49ers have run into problems dropping their last 2 in a row. Maybe this week will be just what they need as they are 11-5 ATS the week prior to their bye week. However, recently they haven't lived up to past performance as they lost their last 3 in a row in this situation. Recommended Play: Considering going against them this week.
