By: Steve Merril Below is a free MLB play with analysis for Friday night: ROCKIES at PIRATES (Over 8, -110) – 7:05 pm ET #905-906 Not an official play, but I would rate the Over as a light lean tonight. The Pirates have won two of their last three games as they continue their home series with the Colorado Rockies tonight. Pittsburgh turns to Zach Duke who just beat the Rockies on July 27th. In that game, he gave up two runs and three hits in six innings of work, but Duke has been historically bad against Colorado. Overall, Duke is 5-10 with a 5.36 ERA this season. He has given up 10 runs and 14 hits in his last two home starts against the Rockies. Clint Barmes (4-10), Brad Hawpe (3-8), Ian Stewart (4-8), Chris Iannetta (2-6), Jason Giambi (1-3), and Todd Helton (1-3) all hit Duke well. Colorado is hitting .269 against lefties while scoring 4.5 runs per game against them. Over their past eight games, they've gone Over the total in five of those games. Duke is backed by a Pittsburgh bullpen that has an ERA close to 4.50 this season. After a nice stretch, Colorado’s Jason Hammel is struggling big time. He's 0-2 with a 5.85 ERA in his last three starts. Hammel has given up 14 runs and 19 hits in his last 20 innings pitched while taking losses to the Phillies and Marlins. The righty faced the Pirates last year giving up five runs and eight hits in six innings of work. Chris Snyder (2-3) and Andy LaRoche (1-3) are two of the four batters who have faced Hammel before. The Pirates have gone Over in four of their last six games, and they’ve scored 16 runs over their last three games. We expect a high-scoring game tonight between the Rockies and Pirates.
