Below is a look at the Rookie vs. Sophomore game which takes place Friday night as part of the NBA All-Star weekend. ROOKIES vs. SOPHOMORES (-6, 253½) – 9:05 pm ET (TNT) #831 Historically, the Sophomores have dominated this game during the past decade with a 7-1 straight-up record in the past eight meetings with big winning margins of 6, 27, 41, 10, 27, 24, and 20 points during their 7-game win streak from 2003-2009; however that one loss came last season when the Rookies won outright 140-128 as a +12½-point underdog. Many of those players are in the game once again for the Sophomores this season; however Sacramento guard Tyreke Evans will miss the game due to an injury. Evans was the MVP of the game last year and also the team’s leading scorer in with 26 points and was a major reason why the Rookies pulled the upset. The Rookies actually held a 17-point lead in last year’s game and never trailed by more than two points all night. They also played well the previous season in 2009 in a narrow 122-116 loss as a +5½ -point underdog as the Rookies actually had a 13-point lead in that game. While the Sophomores have historically held the edge in this game, it appears the Rookies should be able to keep it close this season. They will have the best player on the court in Blake Griffin (Clippers) who will be playing in front of his home crowd in the Staples Center. Griffin will be paired with his Clipper teammate in guard Eric Bledsoe and the Rookies will also have a great point guard in John Wall. In fact, there will be three Kentucky players (Wall, Bledsoe, Cousins) on the Rookie roster tonight and all three played together on the same college team last season which should provide extra chemistry to the Rookie squad tonight.
