As the NFL regular season winds down people seem to come out of the wood work professing who will and won't make the playoffs. Other than New England, Dallas, and Green Bay, that picture is still a bit fuzzy. However, with teams playing in do or die situations the next four weeks bettors all over will be focusing on those games that have possible playoff implications. It is then when it becomes critical to carefully handicap those games since lines will tend to be much sharper with the increased public action. Although a teams "must win" situations must be considered in handicapping this weeks action it is still historical trends and angles that can't be ignored. Because of the time of year no matter what I say about being very careful about betting high profile games the fact remains that the public in general will do so anyway. So that these games are blindly bet below are listed some of the top ATS Winning Trends in games with teams fighting for a playoff spot. Top Trend #1: Playing against road favorites whoare outrushing their opponents by 40 or more yards/game on the season, after outrushing opponent by 100 or more yards in their last game is 46-13 over the last 10 seasons. The trend this sesason is a perfect 6-0 ATS, 13-4 ATS the L3 seasons, and 23-9 ATS the L5. Top Trend #2 Playing against home teams who are off a road loss and only winning between 40% to 49% or their games and is playing a team who is winning only 25-40% or their games is 37-10 since 1983. This angle doesn't appear often but this year is 1-0 ATS, 3-0 ATS the L3 seasons, and 5-2 ATS the L5. Top Trend #3: Playing under where the total is between 42.5 and 49 points in a game involving two teams who offenses average between 18-23 points per game after 2 straight games where 50 total points or more were scored is 39-11 ATS since
1983. This total angle hasn't produced a play yet this season but is 4-1 ATS the L3 seasons, 9-1 ATS the L5, and 17-2 ATS the L10. Hint: Look at the Giants/Eagles contest.
