A look at the hot and cold pitchers going today. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests. Tuesday's probable pitchers has just two starters with ERA's under 3 runs in their last 5 starts not including Tim Hudson who was pushed back Monday to make his return on Tuesday coming off a 2.60 ERA season last year. There are many starters with ERA's over 6 runs in their last 5 starts, six to be exact.

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:

John Lester (Red Sox)

John Lester on the road this season does not warrant a sports betting line over -165, but that is where he is for Tuesday's road start against the Rays. He is 5-4 with a 3.77 ERA on the road and has not been the same dominant pitcher he has been at home. However, in his last 5 starts he claims just 1 win, which should motivate him considering he pitched very well with a 0.89 WHIP, and 2.41 ERA.

Talk about not deserving to be this much of a favorite Lester has just one quality start against the Rays this year in three starts. Ironically that quality start came in Tampa Bay where he went 6 innings gave up just 3 hits and struck out ten for one earned run. In his other two starts he went a combined 9.1 IP, 18H, 13 ER with 11K's. Not very impressive if you ask me, but he's a big favorite on Tuesday against Sonnanstine and the Rays. Sonnanstine has one start at home vs. the Red Sox in a Rays victory 6-2 behind his 5.2 IP, 8H and 2 ER performance.

Again I would pass on this game if I were you. The Red Sox are killing RH starters and are 7-0 in their last 7 games vs. RH starter including a .315 average and 9.00 runs per 9 innings in their last 10 vs. RHP. While the Rays are 7-3 in their last 10 vs. LH starter including a .289 average and 5.21 runs per 9 innings in their last 10 vs. LHP. If you want my sports betting advice, I would recommend you stay away or play the over here.

Notables - Last 5 Starts! • Johnathan Sanchez (2-1, 1.19 WHIP, 2.61 ERA)

Most likely to sustain and win:

John Lester

Probable Cold Starting Pitchers:

Charlie Morton (Pirates)

I will tell you right now that Morton's numbers are skewed. He does carry a 7.03 ERA in his last 5 starts, but it is mainly due to his 10 ER in an inning pitched at Wrigley field two starts ago. Since then he has two quality starts, both at home, going a combined 12.1 IP and giving up 4 ER.

It's same old Charlie, and what do I mean by that? Well being that I personally faced him in High School I know how he struggles with his control. He's got good speed on his fast ball and throws a nice curve, but his control has always been the issue. Hopefully he will have a chance to pitch well against the Reds who he faced just one start ago where he went 6.1 IP and gave up only 2 ER. The Reds have struggled to hit RH starters all season and vs. RHP at home they have a .244 average scoring just 3.83 runs per nine innings. They are just 4-11 in their last 15 home games vs. RH starters, but 5-1 in their last 6 overall vs. RH starters. Again for me this game is another toss up with the Pirates poor offense and inability to score runs.

Notables - Last 5 Starts! • Clayton Richard (3-1, 2.03 WHIP, 6.08 ERA) • Brian Tallet (0-1, 1.93 WHIP, 7.71 ERA) • David Hernandez (1-3, 1.64 WHIP, 6.12 ERA) • Kyle Davies (2-2, 1.59 WHIP, 6.49 ERA) • Gio Gonzalez (0-0, 1.86 WHIP, 6.52 ERA)

Most likely to rebound:

Clayton Richard
