The NCAAF kicks off week #3 of the season with two games tonight. These scenerios certainly favor the books as lines tend to be sharper with the limited amount of action while the betting public just can't stay away. As I have written in the past, it's a long season and there will be plenty of opportunities to get in on the action so there is no need to drop some cash on a game where you don't have the edge. However, with that being said, it doesn't mean you can't win if the matchups are favorable. Tonight, I take a look at the Virginia/Maryland matchup and weigh in on what I think is going to happen so that it might give you the edge that you need to make money tonight.

In this contest the fourth-ranked West. Virginia Mountaineers visit Maryland in a non-conference matchup. West Virginia struggled against outmanned Marshall holding only a four point lead going into the fourth quarter before pulling away with a 48-23 victory. Standout QB Pat White accounted for three touchdowns and RB Steve Slaton ran for 146 yards and two TDs for the Mountaineers.

Last week Maryland made it two in a row with a 26-10 win over Florida International. RB Keon Lattimore rushed for 111 yards and two scores for the Terrapins, who led 16-0 after one quarter but did not score again until the fourth.

Although the Mountaineers have had better teams over the years they have still lost outright as favorites. This fact bears out has West Virginia is a bankroll draining 5-10-1 ATS against Maryland the last 16 seasons. However, WVU has won the last three, going 2-1 ATS. We also have a pair of contrary trends that show home teams in this series are 10-3 SU & 9-4 ATS series mark for the home team while West Virginia is a sparkling 11-2-1 ATS playing on weekdays. My Oponion: This series has been a knock down drag out affair over the years and over 16 points is a ton to give. I recommend taking the points and Maryland in this one.
